About the Speaker:

Dr. Koenig currently serves as Program Director of Oral Medicine and Oral Radiology at Marquette University School of Dentistry.  She has served in many leadership roles within the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (AAOMR) and also the American Dental Education Association (ADEA).  Dr. Koenig currently serves on the WDA Membership and Benefits Committee and has recently completed four-year terms as a Consultant for the Committee on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and as a member of the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations’ Oral Diagnosis Test Construction Committee. Dr Koenig is a frequent reviewer of several professional journals and has given many Continuing Education courses on topics related to oral radiology and emerging digital technology both locally and nationally. Dr. Koenig has been Board certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology since 1996 and assumed the position of President of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology in 2009.

About the Course:  

This course will provide an overview of currently available dental digital radiographic products including intra-oral sensors and Cone Beam CT (CBCT) technology. Indications for CBCT, appropriate imaging protocols and examples of the use of CBCT technology in the various disciplines of dentistry will be presented.  A review of cross-sectional anatomy and some pathology will also be included. 

Course Objectives:

At the end of this course participants will:

1)     Understand the basic concepts of digital intra-oral sensors and CBCT technology

2)     Recognize the indications for CBCT imaging and appropriate imaging protocols for endodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, TMJ problems and implant planning.

3)     Understand the use of third party software for implant planning and the production of surgical guides.
